Air Force libraries are not just public libraries. Base libraries exist to help the military and civilian professional do a better job. Today's military professional has to be well informed, not only about military matters, but about the world as a whole. It has been said that, "The most important thing for business and professional people to have is the most difficult thing for them to find-information. Information makes the difference between a decision and a guess, between success and failure....." Library staff members are educated and trained information professionals dedicated to providing the right information when and where it is needed.
Air Force libraries purchase mission-essential information resources for organizations through library central appropriated funds (central APFs). The materials are maintained in the requesting work center for immediate access. Mission-essential information resources are defined by AFI 34-150, paragraph 4.3, as "publications and services that directly bear on the functions, initiatives, and operations of Air Force agencies and that personnel must have on hand to carry out the installation mission effectively." These materials can include books, sub-scriptions, microforms, and CD-ROM databases which help our offices perform their job duties with excellence.
If you are interested in developing an office collection, please contact the librarian for further information on how we may support your work.
